Space Antz
Enigma
I am walking through a prehistoric jungle.
There are giant ferns, thick undergrowth and a caterpillar the size of a small dog lounging on a tree trunk. It is black and red, and looks at me as I pass by quickly.
Golden amber light is everywhere. A giant bird flies overhead as I go along the winding path. There are glass walls on either side of me, as if I am walking through a fantastic zoo. A tiger goes by on the right side of the path, his long tail flicking back and forth. Above him, a gang of monkeys shriek and chirp, heckling him.
My guide on this journey suddenly appears before me.
He wears a long white robe with a hood pulled over his head. He looks weird. I peer closely at him, trying to figure out why he seems unnatural. Then I realize he is a giant ant.
As soon as I see it, his false body disappears. Mine does too. I am now also a giant ant. We both have red heads with antenna, and big almond-shaped eyes that look like black glass. All six of our legs are large skinny segments and they wave around, testing the air.
The jungle melts away in front of my big buggy eyes.
We stand on a plateau that ends in a sheer cliff drop that overlooks a deep valley. Red-gold sand covers everything in view. The Ant Guide gestures towards the valley below. I carefully peek over the edge and gasp. Far beneath us, etched into the valley floor, lies an enormous drawing of an ant. It looks just like us. I gaze at the Guide in surprise and think, “Nazca!”
He shakes his head and responds telepathically. “Not Earth.”
Then it slowly sinks into my awareness. We are on another planet.
The Guide waves his forelegs at me and takes off running towards the edge of the cliff. I follow him. We jump off and begin soaring through the air, floating on the alien desert wind. The landscape underneath us is a beautiful blend of red, beige and gold. The colors all mix together as we catapult into the unknown…
