Trance Tales: Relics (Meditations On Places)
Dark blue sky, the color of deep Pacific Ocean water. Red sand, the color of burnished copper. All that can be seen for miles.
Dunes fill the landscape, towering and sloping, undulating like waves. A lone figure stands in the midst of the desert. Cloaked and hooded, it lurks like a stain, a splash of black on the crimson background. Only darkness is visible within its hood. Then two yellow eyes wink on and slowly begin to rotate in twin pinwheels.
Anubis appears on top of a dune. Tall and muscular, his legs, arms and chest are bared to the sun. His skin gleams golden and his jackal head surveys. He beckons.
The shriek of a bird sounds overhead. It soars on a current, wings outspread. Horus flies across the dunes, leading the way to the temple that rises from the desert floor.
The statues of the kings stand in a row. Their chiseled faces are still, a hint of self-assured smiles gracing their stone lips. The sun falls across their gigantic forms, covering them in shade as it travels down the line towards the back wall.
In the center of the floor sits an enormous sundial. The shadow cast by the creeping light moves slowly around it, accompanied by the phantom clunk of an eternally running mechanism.
An iridescent scarab follows the shadow, its green-gold shell glimmering faintly in the dim interior of the temple. Time flows. In all directions.

Hi there! My Trance Tales are based on various prompts and fall into 4 categories: Relics (stories about real places), Enigma (stories about mysteries), Pantheon (stories about deities around the world) and Faerie (π). I really hope you are enjoying them!
Are there any Places, Mysteries, Deities or Faeries youβd like to see a meditation about? Iβd love to write one for you! Just send me a message via DM or Notes (just make sure to tag me so I see it) and Iβll see what is shown to me from beyond the veil.
