Kevin stood in his wet swim trunks just outside the bathroom, staring at the empty concrete hole in the ground.
He was completely and utterly alone. The sky looked like it was about to vomit all over the Cold House Pool.
Kevin shivered, the breeze icy on his skin. The green smell was gone. So was the water in the pool, the lifeguard and all the people.
Thunder cracked overhead and he jumped.
Outside the fence, shadows gathered, skulking amongst the dead weeds.
Kevin didn’t see them.
