Ghost Eagle
Trance Tales: Enigma (Nature Spirits)
Inside the hushed, cool interior of a natural history museum. It’s very quiet. The floor is highly polished, like a mirror. The room is dimly lit, except for a large display that has been designed to resemble a wild habitat, with a large, naked branch protruding from an artificial tree. The wall behind it is painted bright blue to evoke a cloudless sky.
Sitting on the branch is a large effigy of a bald eagle, its piercing glass eyes gazing out into the darkened hall. It is incredibly realistic, with a snowy head, chocolate brown wings and corn yellow beak. It seems the eagle is just about to twitch and shake its feathers as it rouses itself from suspended animation.
A sudden sound pierces the church-like quiet of the museum. The noise is clear and focused, like the sound of a pebble dropping into an empty glass soda bottle. A second bald eagle, this one living, is walking across the mirror-floor. It stands three feet tall and is completely pristine white. The sound is coming from the eagle’s talons, sharp and shiny black, as if they’ve been colored with glossy paint. They tap on the floor as it walks along, echoing in the large room.
The eagle stops, full face forward, and opens its wings in an angelic spread. Every feather stands out in clean, stark detail. It bends its head and digs around its plumage with its beak, preening itself. When complete, the wings close again and it stands motionless, staring straight ahead with bright, pale golden eyes. The majestic bird radiates stillness, peace, calm and unassailable power.
There is nothing to fear. All is well.
Now the eagle is flying high above, cruising just below the threshold of the museum ceiling. It glides on an invisible breeze around the gallery, turning in lazy, effortless circles.
And now the building has vanished, and the eagle is soaring in a watery blue sky. It rises higher and higher, becoming harder to see from the ground below, until it slowly fades into the upper atmosphere, streaked with milky shreds of cloud.
Hi there! My Trance Tales are based on various prompts and fall into 4 categories: Relics (stories about real places), Enigma (stories about mysteries), Pantheon (stories about deities around the world) and Faerie (🍄). I really hope you are enjoying them!
Are there any Places, Mysteries, Deities or Faeries you’d like to see a meditation about? I’d love to write one for you! Just send me a message via DM or Notes (just make sure to tag me so I see it) and I’ll see what is shown to me from beyond the veil.
